Keeping the following tips in mind can help you make the most of Photoshop CS5:

* Photoshop layers are a great way to organize and manage complex images and modify complex images. It is the best tool for editing and manipulating images and is very effective. For more on Photoshop’s layers, see Chapter 5.
* Remember to save often, as you can undo and redo any operation as many times as you need to. The Help button brings up a list of all the available undo and redo commands.
* If you find a command you don’t recognize, or want to modify a command, hover over a button to see a tooltip that explains what a button does.
* When using the Move tool, you may need to stretch the image to move it, so stretch your monitor to cover the image you want to move. If you decide to undo a move, be sure the image is in the same place before you click the Undo icon.

* Use Layers to turn an object into a layer. Adding a layer by selecting the Move tool and dragging on the image activates the move tool.
* Use the Layers panel to remove, duplicate, and rename layers. When moving an object to a new layer, be sure the new layer is on top. Press Shift+Ctrl+Alt+Y (Shift+Cmd+Option+Y on a Mac) to move the current layer to the bottom. The Layers panel also contains useful information about your layers.

Regulatory T cells (Treg) are essential to the maintenance of immune tolerance. While stable Treg frequencies are often sufficient to maintain the immune tolerance, it is clear that Treg can have a critical function in immune homeostasis, especially after an infection or in the setting of autoimmunity. In addition to Treg, a subset of T helper cells called Type 1 regulatory T (Tr1) cells have emerged as a new cell type that shares many functional features with Treg. Unlike Treg, which develop from CD4+CD25+ cells, Tr1 cells develop from CD4+ naïve cells and share many molecular features with Th1 cells but they do not express IL-2. As a result, the induction of Tr1 cells does not require Foxp3 or transcription factors such as RORgamma or T-bet. However, we have made the surprising observation that the induction of Tr1 cells requires the same transcription factors that induce conventional Th1 cells and that control the generation of Type 17 cells (Th17). The principal investigator has shown that the stabilization of the transcription factor STAT4 in the nucleus is a key regulatory event in the generation of Tr1 cells. The long-term goal of this project is to unravel the molecular mechanisms that direct the differentiation of Tr1 cells. While the principal investigator has observed that STAT4 activation is necessary for Tr1 cells to be generated, the signals that lead to the phosphorylation and activation of STAT4 are not known. The main goal of this proposal is to determine the mechanisms that control STAT4 activation to induce and stabilize the transcription factor and their relevance to Tr1 cells. The knowledge gained from this research will further our understanding of how Type 17 and Tr1 cells develop in vivo and how these cell types communicate with the immune system. The knowledge gained from this research will further our understanding of the regulatory roles that Th17 and Tr1 play in immune homeostasis and potentially in the development of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases.In the space of just two days, Tuskwheel has moved from last year’s runner-up in the Arena 1 class at Kalevala, Finland, to being named best in the entire class – and, we’re going to tell you why.

Android Broadcast Receive – A better way?

My Android app needs to constantly check for “xyz” to be there. I can’t afford to have my app consuming too much battery so I’ve got a method that listens for the xyz in the background:
class MyBackgroundService extends Service {
private BroadcastReceiver myReceiver = new myReceiver();

public void onCreate() {
IntentFilter filter = new IntentFilter();
registerReceiver(myReceiver, filter);

public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, int startId) {

private class myReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
//do something

This is not a very good way to do it.
It polls the internet over and over again (until it gets a positive result). The problem is that if it takes my app 5-10 sec to get a result then the user has to wait 5-10 sec before the app does something else.
My question is: Is there any other way to do this without polling?

It depends on what you want to do. If your goal is to keep the app running with the lowest battery usage, then I would suggest you to be more selective about the apps you open and close, especially when there is no user interaction involved. If this becomes too complicated, consider using a service which is kept running in the background as long as the device is on.
Here is an example of a service running in the background using a Broadcast receiver which fires every minute:
